  • As a mom of three older kids and auntie to many others, I've learned that kids really benefit from repeated grounding of good true positivity- not glossing over the hard things in life, but grounded in understanding what really matters and the power that comes from knowing that they are loved and loveable. I adore this book- for the simple text, the grounded truth, and the inclusive images. It reminds me a bit of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood- thoughtful and simple and powerful and just what kids need. Plus as the adult reading it, I feel similarly re-grounded in the simple truths. I'll be buying this for all the families I know with little ones :-)

  • Reading this book as an adult reminded me of my childhood days in Japan (the cute anime-style illustrations helped). Back then, I also received encouraging messages like the ones in this book, with two crucial differences. I wasn't encouraged to be free, or to be grateful for deep emotions. I was pushed to appreciate my family, food, challenges - the hallmark of good straight-A student - but without the context of physical and emotional freedom, I did not learn to be/love myself. This is the book I wish I had when I was five. It is short and sweet and can change your life. Even for adults.
