Hannah’s Reflections ~The Quartz Family~
Hi, I am Hannah.
I will be looking into Families of Gemstones in more detail.
This week is The Quartz Family.
Here I will give you my reflection and some information on what I have found out about The Quartz Family.
The Quartz Family is so large that I will break it down a bit so you can learn in bite-size pieces and it will make it easier for me! Broadly speaking, the Quartz family is split into two classifications, known as Macrocrystalline Quartz and Microcrystalline Quartz/Cryptocrystalline Quartz.
So Here is a poster to easily identify the Macrocrystalline Quartz. (After researching more, different websites suggest there are more Quartz varieties in this classification, but I am just going to stick with these for now)
Macrocrystilline Quartz include Amethyst, Ametrine, Citrine, Smoky Quartz, Rose Quartz, Rutilated Quartz, Tiger’s Eye and Prasiolite. (I have never heard of Prasiolite, so am very interested in finding out more about this gemstone)
Macrocrystalline Quartz are made up of crystals visible to the unaided eye. This appearance may take the form of a large, single crystal, or a mass of crystallites with no visible faces. The differences in color are caused by traces of other minerals locked into the crystal structure.
