"I found Henna Painting to be relaxing and spa-like in how it gave me quiet time to think and relax.
It's something I've put off doing as too self-indulgent but it was really good for me and helped me revitalize and refresh my self-esteem."

What is henna?

Henna body painting is an ancient cosmetic and healing art. The leaves of the henna plant are dried and crushed into a powder, then made into a paste that is applied to the body to naturally and temporarily dye the skin in a reddish color. This can be done in elaborate patterns and designs, traditionally on the hands and feet since that is where the henna is most effective and stays the longest. The result is a temporary "tattoo", which will last from several days to several weeks. The process is painless and in no way harmful to the skin. If anything, it tickles a bit.

Why get a Henna "Tattoo"?

Traditional henna body art is widespread throughout the world. From Africa, across the Middle East to South Asia, Malaysia, and Indonesia, people use henna to celebrate holidays, marriages, and births, to bring luck and enhance beauty. Mehndi (the art of henna) inspires an aura of festivity and well being. It can be a sacred practice intended not just to beautify the body but to invite grace and good fortune into ones home, ones marriage and ones body. It is a kind of talisman, a blessing upon the skin. Ancient symbols and motifs are common subjects for henna designs. I provide books of designs or you can provide your own symbols with personal significance.

Henna can also be used as a sun block, to create reverse designs on the skin. If you are going on vacation or just planning on soaking in the sun, you can get a henna design applied to your skin. The henna stained skin cells will block the sun in that exact pattern and therefore create a reverse design that will last as long as your tan. Fun stuff!!
